WHAT IS EARWAX?

The natural ear wax our ears produce forms a ear cleaning defensive layer in the ear canal, protecting against dust, dirt, and bacteria. Everyone develops different amounts of wax, and at different speeds. For many people, ear wax goes unnoticed and does not cause any complications. However, for some individuals, earwax can build up and become impacted inside the ear canal.

MICROSUCTION EAR WAX REMOVAL

Microsuction earwax removal is the removal of ear wax using a gentle suction device and a microscope to view the ear canal and drum accurately and remove ear wax. It provides instant relief and, in most cases, restores full hearing immediately. Microsuction ear wax removal is proven to be the Gold Standard for the removal of Ear wax and is completely safe, accurate and effective unlike traditional methods such as ear syringing.

PRIOR TO YOUR APPOINTMENT

We advise to use olive oil 3 days prior to your appointment, for best results. However we can still remove the wax without olive oil use if necessary.

Dont's

The skin on the inside of the ear canal is very sensitive and can be damaged easily. We do not advise you to attempt ear wax removal at home using cotton buds. This pushes ear wax closer to your ear drum and can cause further problems, making ear wax removal more challenging.
We always advise against the use of Hopi ear wax candles and ear wax cleaners online which is found to give false perceptions of ear wax removal and is very dangerous.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE DAY?

One of our Fully Qualified Audiologist will do a medical questionnaire and examine your ear with an otoscope. If impacted ear wax is present this will be safely removed from the ear.

Microsuction ear wax removal takes between 20 and 30 minutes depending on one or both ears being treated.

Olive Oil to soften the ear wax is not necessary for ear wax removal weeks before the appointment although using a few days before can help ear wax removal and the natural ear cleaning process.

AFTERCARE

We advise the use of olive oil drops once a week to keep your ears clear and moisturised to slow down the build up of ear wax.
The most efficient method is by tilting your head whilst inserting the drops, allowing the oil to clean the whole ear canal and drum. Massaging the Tragus (entrance of ear canal) will also help dispersion of oil and effective cleaning.
